Sugary Goodness

How do you say no to this? My great-grandma made caramel rolls for us. Seriously, how do you say no? Somehow 18 days without sugar has given me the will-power of gods and I said no (so far). How long can you say no to your great-grandma's caramel rolls though? I think this could be the food to make me break the diet. I guess vacations are made for breaking diets...aren't they?

Day 15

Yesterday was day 15 on the South Beach Diet for me and my mom. Anybody who knows the diet knows what that means...whole grains and fruit! It was a very exciting day for us. I got violently sick the night before (no details needed) and couldn't enjoy it as much as my mom though. She was very excited about making a parfait with plain yogurt, strawberries, blueberries and Uncle Sam cereal. She said it would be better with sugar. She says that a lot now. Uncle Sam isn't too bad. If you need some fiber in your life I would highly suggest it!

I realize a picture of the parfait isn't really necessary, but everything is better with pictures. Check out Evi's and Leisel's blogs and you will agree. :)

Why I love my Wii...

Becca taught Nanny how to Wii-bowl last Sunday. I think Nanny was more into creating her Mii than the actual bowling. She wanted to make sure she had wrinkles. She also wanted to be in a skirt, but Nintendo only lets you do pants.
Today I tested my Wii Fit Age again (on Wii Sports, not Wii Fit--sadly I still don't have it). The first time I did it I was 50, but today I moved down to 29. The first time Jonnie did it he was 84! I think he has moved down to 31 now. I was talking to my mom about it at lunch and she decided she wanted to see what her Wii age was. She is 55. She made my dad do it and he is 60! I think she was proud of herself.
The Nintendo Wii is just another reason why I love the Japanese!

I want to be Victoria Beckham.

(And not because she's married to David Beckham and was a Spice Girl, although that would be great too.)
I saw her on an interview with Barbara Walters. Barbara asked her if she ever ate a cookie or a piece of candy. "No." Never? "No."
My mom and I have only been on the South Beach Diet for five days now. The no-sugar added fudge pops and sugar-free jello are okay for now, but I do not think I could live my whole life without sweets! Victoria Beckham, I am in awe of you.

I hate blogger...

I have been trying to change my template for days and it won't let me. I am more than a little frustrated. I keep getting random error messages. It won't even let me post half of the time. So I would classify my blog as "under construction" right now. Sorry!

What happens in Nashville

Nikki and I are going through country withdrawals right now.
Bartlesville just doesn't compare to Nashville.
We saw interesting sights...

We had some amazing, amazing nose-bleed seats.

We saw a few celebrities up close.

We found my future husband...

and Nikki's.

My Favorite Things

Apparently I really love shoes. These (plus a pair of heels that are already in the repair shop) are the shoes I have bought since I have been home. Actually, I just remembered I bought a pair of flats at the Gap the first week I was home also. My mom thinks I'm making up for a whole year of lost shopping. I really just love shopping. And with all the thousands of dollars I made in the PC, why not? :)

I fell in love and had my heart broken yesterday.

Josh Turner, who has the most beautiful, deep voice you will ever here, was on stage last night. I couldn't help but notice how attractive he was. He had a gorgeous shiny, white smile. He was playing the guitar. Then he started singing about Jesus. I fell in love. Then he lifted up his left hand. There was a ring and my heart was broken. I am happy that he is happy, but it pains me that I will never find anyone as great as him. Well, I thought that until I came home and googled him. He has a hairy chest...really hairy. I'm not heartbroken anymore.
Nikki and I are having so much fun. There aren't as many hicks as I expected to see. We decided that is because the truly "country" people probably couldn't afford this. I have heard lots of SOUTHERN accents. I haven't seen as many mullets as I would like to, but I've seen plenty of cowboy hats and boots.
We have seen so many country artists I have to make a list so I can remember (and it's only after day two). So far we have seen Keith Anderson, Erika Jo (from the first season of Nashville Star), Mindy McCready, Phil Stacey (from American Idol), Kellie Pickler, Jessica Simpson (guest appearance, but she didn't sing), Jewel, Rascal Flatts (guest appearance) Taylor Swift, Sugarland, The Clark Brothers, Julie Roberts, Heartland, Lonestar, Jack Ingram, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Josh Turner, Faith Hill, Keith Urban (guest appearance) and a ton more smaller named artists.
We are leaving for day three right now. You should all be jealous. Not only are we hearing great music, but we are getting lots of exercise and good tans too!

I am pretty sure I have TB and scabies now.

I'm serious. Those greyhound buses are disgusting. I have been on buses with Saramaccan women who pee standing up and wipe with whatever they are wearing. This was worse. Much worse.

This pictures isn't blurry. That's just grease on the window from the last person's face. Eww! I didn't sleep the whole trip because I didn't want my head to touch the head rest.
I always see characters in movies and think, "people like that don't really exist." They exist and they ride greyhound buses. One lady kept singing Amazing Grace. Then she went to tell the bus driver he was driving on the shoulder too much so he hit her with his little plastic cage door. This was the least exciting man on the bus (and the only one I could take a picture of without getting caught.

Let this be a lesson for all of you--never take the bus!

She said yes!

Nikki and I are leaving tomorrow night for Nashville. I have never considered myself much of a hick, but I'm so excited about going to this Country Music Fest I must be! I am even riding a greyhound bus from Oklahoma City to Bartlesville so we can leave sooner. Isn't it fun being spontaneous?

my two worlds collided

Regina and I finally got to have our dinner at Ted's together. We had only been talking about it for a year. It was amazing! Homemade tortillas and salsa without cilantro just can't compare.

the problem with adventures...

I think once you journey out into the unknown it becomes addicting. I remember when I came home from Australia I could not handle staying in Oklahoma that summer. I became a restless person. I don't remember being one before. Once school started I was able to settle back into the hectic lifestyle and forget that I wasn't flying off to Fiji for the weekend.
But it's happening again. Although there was lots of down time (to put it nicely) in Suriname, I still had some adventures. Deciding to jump the border to French Guiana for the weekend was probably one of the best.
Today I had the great idea to go to the Country Music Festival in Nashville. I looked it up online and it starts Thursday. I called Nikki to go with me. I just can't understand these people with JOBS. She hasn't said no yet, but I think it's coming.
So until I get to move out of the country again for my next adventure, I'll keep waiting and practicing my patience.

my very first blog

That's actually a lie. I started a blog before I went to Suriname, but the government is a lot more Big Brother than you would think. I decided I didn't want the burden of knowing my boss was reading every time I posted something. I also knew there was a possibility it wouldn't always be positive about PC. It turned out to be very true at the end of my service so I think I made the right choice.
So here it is--my very first (second) blog. I am not sure what is going to be interesting enough in my life to write about, but whatever it is I hope y'all enjoy it!
